You’re Not Alone This Christmas

Posted on December 17th, 2021

Christmas is a time that is difficult for a lot of people, for so many different reasons, but it can feel especially hard at this time of year for those who have sadly lost someone they loved. Whether someone close to you has passed away recently or not, throughout the festive period or not, as Christmas and the end of the year is traditionally a time for togetherness, the absence of somebody significant can be felt more than ever.

If you will be spending the holidays with feelings of grief rather than celebration this year, please know that, perhaps more than ever, you are not alone in this. Even if you cannot have friends and family with you in person on Christmas Day or the surrounding period, if you feel you can, do try to reach out for a phone or video call, or even a text, with someone you care about, for some company and conversation which may bring some cheer – and perhaps a chance to remember and reminisce together about someone dear that is no longer with you.

There is also support available if you feel you have no one close to you to talk to – these services will always be there to answer your call and talk to you at Christmas and throughout the year.

Cruse Bereavement Care – call on 0808 808 1677 to speak to trained bereavement volunteers who will lend an ear and some emotional support; do visit the website for their opening hours across the festive period.

The Samaritans – available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the Samaritans are here to talk, or just to listen, for free on 116 123, or if you would prefer to write down your thoughts and feelings, email jo@samaritans.org. Discover other ways to get in touch, by visiting the website.

The Freedom Funerals team are also here to help and offer some guidance at this most painful time; contact us on 01206 862 963 or email info@freedomfunerals.co.uk. Wishing you a peaceful Christmas and all the very best for the new year.
