World Mental Health Day: Seeking Professional Help for Bereavement Support

Posted on October 9th, 2020

The 10th of October marks World Mental Health Day, with this year’s theme being ‘Mental Health for All: Greater Investment – Greater Access’. In light of the events that have taken place this year and the global pandemic that we still find ourselves in, the need for mental health services and support is greater than ever.

There are many options available for professional help and support for if you are struggling with grief after the passing of a loved one. Counselling, helplines and other services are there to guide you through this difficult time. If you believe you would benefit from the use of professional mental health services during your grieving period, we recommend looking at the following resources…

Cruse Bereavement Care

They have a range of branches spread out across the country, as well as their free to phone national helpline. Visit their website for more information or call their helpline if you are in need of a more immediate response.

NHS
If you believe you would benefit from counselling or other services available through the NHS, book an appointment with your GP and they will be able to talk through the best options for you. Visit the NHS website to search for bereavement support available in your area: https://bit.ly/30r0zJj

Support Groups
Bereavement support groups are also an option – being to speak openly with others who are coping with similar situations and emotions can help you to feel less alone in what you are going through.

Speaking with Others
Chances are that you have family and friends around you, who may also be struggling with the loss of this person. Realise that you can help each other by talking and offering a shoulder to cry on – as much as you may want to, it is best to avoid isolating yourself; instead spend time with the people that you love.

The team at Freedom Funerals are here to support you in whatever way we can, so please do not hesitate to give us a call on 01206 862 963 if you would like to speak with us. We have been working in the industry a long time and would be happy to point you in the right direction for additional support.
