Taking the green path

Posted on October 23rd, 2017

The thought of being laid to rest somewhere you love is something that the team here at Freedom Funeral’s feel is exactly what everyone deserves.

Whether you are thinking of scattering ashes in a favourite spot, burials at sea, internment in a family plot or a green funeral we can help…

The rise of Green funerals offers outdoor lovers the chance to be at one with nature in a peaceful setting that they would have enjoyed during their lifetime.  It is no coincidence that more people when given the choice are choosing to plan a green funeral and here are just some of the reasons:

  • Ambient environment – Woodland burial sites are often areas of beauty that are a pleasure to visit and walk around which offer a more peaceful feel than some traditional cemeteries in more built-up urban areas
  • Not location dependent – Often certain internment laws stop you being laid to rest in your cemetery if you are not in the right catchment area, but Greenland burial sites are not subject to such jurisdiction
  • Access at all times – Woodland burial sites tend not to have the same restrictions as traditional cemeteries when it comes to visiting times, so family and friends are free to come and go as they please
  • Environmentally-friendly – Anything we can do to help the environment is good news and the fact that only biodegradable coffins are allowed at green funerals is key plus the ability to scatter ashes keeps the environmental impact low
  • No levies – It may not be something nice to consider, but traditional cemeteries are becoming full and thus the council are increasing levies on people in and outside catchment areas for burial plots, something that would not happen at a green burial site

There are some lovely woodland options locally including Oakfield Wood Wrabness and Feldy View Woodland Cemetery in Mersea.   If you are thinking of a green funerals in Colchester and want to speak to one of our team about the options then gives us a call on 01206 862 963.
