Keeping Yourself Connected During Self-isolation

Posted on March 26th, 2020

During this unprecedented time, feel assured that there are ways to stay connected with others and combat the fear and feeling of loneliness. Even if this is in ways that are new to you, it is a great opportunity to explore all the possibilities and discover everything that is on offer. Have a read of our top tips for staying connected with others, with the outside world and with yourself.

With others:

Simply lifting the phone and making a call can make a huge difference. Just hearing someone’s voice and talking about all the positive things you can find, such as the sunny weather or the delicious meal you just cooked, can brighten up a day. But the ability to now see someone’s face on the free video call services that are available can make you feel even less lonely, almost like they are there with you! Download “Zoom” or “Skype” on to your computer, tablet or phone and share your username with your friends/family and you will be good to go.

With the outside world:

This may seem like a frightening time right now, but it doesn’t mean you can’t continue to appreciate all the wonderful things that are right outside your door. When you wake up, just taking a moment or two to look out the window at the beautiful flowers that are starting to bud or listening to the birds that are happy and chirping can quickly put a smile on your face. If you can get outside and get some fresh air, or do that bit of gardening you always wished you had time to do, now is the perfect opportunity.

With yourself:

Not only is it important to stay connected with others, but also with yourself. Mindfulness is a fantastic way to stay calm and ease any anxiety that might be starting to arise. If you are new to meditation and mindfulness, there are plenty of free apps that will guide you through the all-important breathing techniques. The “Headspace” app is brilliant for this. Take some time each day in your favourite spot in the house or garden to completely relax your mind – it really does work wonders!

It is so important to try to remain positive and think of the brighter times that are to come once this is all over. If you simply need a chat, or further advice on how to tackle self-isolation, please don’t hesitate to give our friendly team a call on 01206 862 963 – we are always here for you.
