Funerals don’t need to cost the earth

Posted on September 11th, 2017

Everyone should be entitled to the funeral they want without exception and that’s why we’ve made it our ethos to give people the freedom to choose.

However, the latest figures from Royal London National Funeral Cost Index show that the rising prices of funerals are pushing families into debt, which is hugely sad to hear.

According to the survey the national average prices are up 3% making a burial in Colchester £3,651 on average, while a cremation costs £3,300.

Colchester’s average price for a burial is dwarfed by Ipswich though, which sits at £4,559 and South Essex that is a staggering £5,732.

We started Freedom Funerals to make sure people were not being overcharged in times of grief when they are wishing to give their loved ones the funeral they deserve.

There are the constantly increasing disbursement costs that must be paid for, such as burial plots and venues etc, but we want people to understand that the discretionary items that are not always necessary.  You can choose whether to have an order of service or a newspaper announcement and a green burial can help negate many statuary costs. There is also nothing wrong with looking around for the best price as it is amazing the amount you can save by going with the right funeral director.

Reacting to the latest report on funeral costs, Lee says: “A loved one passing away is traumatic enough for all of us let alone the rising costs of funerals giving a funeral burden that people cannot afford.

I could see the pain this was causing people and wanted to be able to offer a service delivered with the same care and attention at a lower costs to make sure people are not priced out of having the freedom to choose the funeral they want.

People want to give their loved ones a ‘good send-off’ and because of this they generally don’t look around for the best price when there are often more affordable options available to you wherever you live.”
